Dark Weaves is a story about heroes opposite no villains, about goodwill overcoming hate, about loyalty, love and family. In a world where one person can make big changes, readers will follow Aisha and the people around her as they try to do the right thing for themselves, their friends, and their kingdom. The writing style lends to a quick read, but will entice your imagination to fill in the blanks. The main character is not your expected protagonist, and the story is not your typical epic heroic journey.
Lyrians born with the gift of light weaves tend to become healers or study further to become warmages. The gift of dark is rarer, due to an ancient quarrel and split among the people that evolved into two separate kingdoms and a centuries-long hostility.
Recently graduated from the Academy, Aisha Tremelan has mastered the light weaves for healing. In an attempt to learn more about her gift for dark weaves, she travels with her good friend, Daryl, to visit a man she can learn from. Instead, the trip is met with disappointment, and although Aisha meets and befriends a soldier with a mysterious past, something terrible befalls Daryl, and Aisha gets captured by the enemy…

Overall, I will say that I enjoyed the book; it had enough character development and action to keep me satisfied and wanting more, all while not having any periods of pointless banter. That being said it's not a book for everyone. I know many people like their fantasy novels to spell out a whole new world, with every last exquisite detail written down for the reader. This book is not that type of book. The descriptions of most of the characters and locations are not very thorough, and it's pretty obvious that it is intentional. Through the book I found myself building my own vision of what the characters looked like, and that's an aspect that I actually enjoyed. Enough description is always present to make you understand what the essence of everything is, but the fine details and appearances are left up to the reader. Some may see it as lacking or lazy, but I found it a surprisingly good way to become more immersed; the more I put into the story, the more I was drawn in.Enough about the style though; onwards to the content! The book isn't about epic heros; there are no overly powerful, sword-swinging macho-men who smoke cigars and cleave entire armies every swing. It's a story about good and evil, and how sometimes good is evil and evil is good. It's about miscommunication, deception, and the struggles that someone who has their world turned upside down has to overcome. It may not earn a place on everyone's "oh god that was awesome" shelf, but it's certainly worth reading, which is more than I can say of a lot of books I've read.

Dark Weaves edition by NL Louie Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Dark Weaves creates a detailed, interesting world. It's a quick read that you can't put down. It blends believability and fantasy in such a way that you'll find yourself thinking about its world as if it really existed.
The book was better than expected. I was impressed by the nuances that tied aspects of the story together, ie the children's poem or excerpts from the Warmages handbook. I think the writer's style devoid of heavy details really enhanced the imagination of the reader.
The story line kept the reader engaged, so much so that I finished the book in less than 2 days-- partially because of the easy read. But, to know before hand that there are no 'good guys' and no 'bad guys' led the reader to wonder what was going to happen at each turn and how the battle would end.
Though there were parts that were predictable, mostly the story line tied with Aisha and her family, it nevertheless added background information about what happened.
The end of the book seemed a little rushed and a little too 'happy' for my taste. I would like to see a second book, with a bit more development on Andy.
"Rawrrr rawrr rawr"- Dragon speak, for you should read it.
